First Aid Training

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel to enable immediate first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. Staff Defence offers First Aid Training courses in accordance with the HSE guidelines, meeting the criteria set for companies to consider when selecting a First Aid provider.

Working with Global Horizon Skills Ltd, the accrediting centre, our trainers hold a current FAW (First Aid at Work) certificate and a First Aid Trainer’s certificate. At the end of each course, after passing the assessment, each successful participant is awarded a First Aid certificate (in accordance with the HSE Regulations) which lasts for 3 years (or for 12 months in the case of the Emergency First Aid at Work Refresher course).

We offer two levels of first aid training, as well as refresher courses. To determine which course is suited to your requirements, employers should complete the HSE needs assessment. These courses are generally run in Peterborough, but can also be held at a site closer to you.

If you have further questions, you may find the HSE’s leaflet “First Aid at Work – Your Questions Answered” useful or contact us with any questions you might have about our courses and which is best for you.

First Aid at Work Re-qualification (FAW) - 2 Day Course

For First Aiders who already hold a current 3-year First Aid at Work certificate, or where the certificate has recently expired and where the training can be completed within 28 days of its expiry, this course is specifically designed to deliver the content of the First Aid at Work course in 2 days, rather than 3.

Delegates can only participate in this course if:

  • they hold a current First Aid at Work certificate (3 years), or
  • their First Aid at Work certificate has recently expired and they can complete this training within 28 days of the expiry date.

Attending and successfully completing this course and the assessments will result in a new 3 year First Aid at Work certificate being issued. If you attend this course up to 3 months in advance of your current First Aid at Work certificate expiring, you will not lose any time from the new certificate.

Examples of when this course can be taken:

  • If your current certificate expires on 1st July 2017 and you attend a re-qualification course before it expires, on the 7th/8th May 2017, your new certificate will expire on 1st July 2020.
  • If your current certificate expires on 20th April 2017 and you attend a re-qualification course within 28 days of it expiring, on the 7th/8th May 2017, your new certificate will expire on 8th May 2020.
  • If your current certificate expires on 6th April 2017, you will not be able to attend the re-qualification course on the 7th/8th May, since it is over 28 days after the certificate has expired and you will be required to attend a new 3 day First Aid at Work course.
